Jim Furyk and his unorthodox swing reminds us that it’s not how, it’s how many is this game of golf. Even though he’s improved his swing path a little over the years, he’s always had an extremely upright swing. It obviously doesn’t seem to matter much though because he’s racked up win after win after win in recent years.
Jim Furyk is a great golfer who is not afraid of competition. In the era where people are afraid to be paired up with Tiger in the last group on Sunday, Jim shines. His consistency, excellent short game, and driving accuracy has earned him top performances in not only regular tournaments but majors as well.

Kenny Perry is a late comer for sure, as he didn’t really make a big splash on the PGA Tour until he was in his mid 40s. Nowadays, he is one of the best player on tour and always fun to watch.
It was Kenny Perry’s dream to qualify for the Ryder Cup and he actually didn’t play the British Open just so he can get more points to be considered for the 2008 Ryder Cup team. That move paid off though because he was not only on the team, the US actually won after years of losing.
Despite all the buzz about Sergio Garcia being the best player to never win a major, Kenny Perry actually holds the title for being the highest money earner on the PGA Tour without a major. I know, these stats are meaningless in a way but hey, it sure strikes up good conversation.

Without a doubt, Phil Mickelson is the best left handed golfer of our time. His short game magic has captured many fans that follow his every move.
For years, he was named the best golfer to never win a major. Phil was always so close to winning but never tasted victory until the 2004 Masters when he sunk that birdie putt on 18th to win the green jacket. It was such a relief to finally see him win, as I’m sure everyone can agree. The confidence led to 3 majors in total so far, and he continues to be a favorite to win whenever we hit major week.
Little did people know that Phil Mickelson is actually right handed, and only learned to play left handed through mirroring his father’s swing on the driving range. I must say that if he can play golf so good with his off hand, what could’ve happened if he actually played with his right?

Ever since his 2006 US Open win, Geoff Ogilvy has joined the elite ranks on the PGA Tour. In fact, since that time, he’s been slowly inching up the World Golf Rankings and he’s now (as of February 2009) in the top ten.
Geoff Ogilvy isn’t a long hitter at all, but he’s proven time and time again that distance is not the only thing in golf. Right out of the gate in 2009, he’s already won the Mercedes Benz Championship in Hawaii so this should boost his confidence quite a bit for months to come.

Steve Stricker is an amazing putter, which is probably why he was able to bounce back and win the 2006 comeback player of the year award. In fact, in 2007, he was even in contention for the Fedex Cup as he finished second, only behind Tiger Woods.
Believe it or not, Steve Stricker actually carries compasses with him in the practice rounds so he can chart hole directions against the wind. A basic but effect method I’d say. As for other gadgets, he’s said to also carry extra batteries with him just in case his range finder runs out of juice.

Admit it, we all want to be as cool as Greg Norman. At the height of his golf career, he was almost unbeatable with his aggressive play. In fact, his style of play earned him the nickname “white shark”. Despite his natural talents in golf, it almost seems like his sights are more on business than golf, as he started really branching out his empire in the corporate world with golf merchandise, course design and others.
Although Greg Norman didn’t win, it was fun to see him play well again at the 2008 British Open, as he was even leading after 3 rounds. It goes to show that this game has no age, and that anyone has a chance to win out there.

Vijay Singh is known in the golf world as the guy who never stops practicing. Even in his mid forties, he is routinely the last person to leave the practice area after a round and the results proves that hard work pays off. Just in 2008, he has won 3 times on the PGA Tour.
It would be super interesting if he hits 50 and starts dominating the Champions Tour, but if he’s playing so well, maybe he will just stay in the PGA and win more majors at the highest level.

Ernie Els has really built an business empire based on his popularity in golf. Whether it’s golf course design, wine, or his foundation, he is involved.
In a sudden change in 2007, Ernie Els switched equipment sponsors to Callaway and since then, he hasn’t been in the spotlight. I’m not saying that it’s the equipment’s fault, as it’s often the indian, not the arrow but whatever the reason, I hope that Ernie can bounce back and be at the top of his game again.
Ernie Els (or the Big Easy as they call him) has an incredibly smooth swing. Coupled with his tall built, he hits the ball really far. However, smooth swings can easily be affected under pressure and that’s where Ernie falls short. It seems that he isn’t as confident with his game than other elite players and that has hindered his performance in the past.
Nevertheless, Ernie Els is a great golfer and one who many people love to watch.

Luke Donald is not only a great golfer but a true entrepreneur. In addition to playing golf at the elite level with his Mizuno golf clubs, Luke likes to collect art and also has a wine business.
While Luke Donald hasn’t won on tour since 2006, he routinely finishes high in rankings. In fact, he was in the top ten world rankings for a while before falling out of it. Since 2004, he has made more than $1 million each year as well as a ton more on the European Tour. This golfer is good and consistent, and a great player to watch as well.

Everyone knows Bubba Watson’s ability to drive the ball, but he actually has a lot of game to accompany that long drive. Most feel that if he were to be more patient with the course (and himself) in competition, his win totals will be much higher.
It’s interesting to note that Bubba Watson left college to turn pro when he only had two credits remaining to complete, but went back to finish his degree after a few years of pro golf. It was a proud moment for him I’m sure, and one that can be admired as going back to school after having a career is one of the most difficult thing to do.
